To see it in action, click here (opens in a new window). You'll see the default driving directions between Key Arena and Greenlake, which normally take you along I-5. Now, hover your mouse over the route there on I-5; you'll see a box that says, "Drag to change route." Pull that line over to Highway 99. The route will recompute automatically, and you'll see a new balloon to indicate your preference. It's wicked, because it lets you quickly adjust your maps based on things like, say, picking up a friend on the way someplace, or avoiding a stretch of road due to traffic or construction. (It's also ideal if you like to walk places and want to see what your mileage might be.) Give it a try! Posted by Gavin Shearer at June 30, 2007 4:12 PM. Posted to Geek. CommentsThis is a great feature, which I've long described and desired. I'm not surprised that Google Maps was the ones to finally implement it. My product management sense is a little dissatisfied tho: I think it can be improved. I've often inadvertently added a "pause" to the map when I'm trying to actually do my drag&drop on the map. I think it makes more sense to have some different action to add the pause instead of a click and drag... but, I have to admit, the feature is better there than not. :) Posted by: E.Chen Post a commentThanks for signing in, .
